Jocelyne Prince
Mouth Piece (1998-2002)
Sculpture
Glass, rubber
18x150x15cm
Egged on by desires to bite or lick hot glass, and inspired by Dr Marage's turn of the century apparatus for the study of speech and sound, I attempted to record the trace of biting down (via the hot glass blowing process) on a sound shaped bubble. In the final installation the shapes are ordered by their vowel sound (A,E,I,O,U), however their overwhelming strange and sexual shapes bring the viewer back to the less than logical desires that spurred the piece into actuality.
