About
Jocelyne Prince is an artist working with the material and the conceptual properties of glass. Her process explores how actions can be recorded through material. Transparency, optical phenomenon and projection are key tools that translate these poetic acts into performative events, or into objects that highlight ephemeral occurrences.

LIVE EVENT SERIES
GLASS: AN ACCOMPLISHED PERFORMER
There is a palpable energy in all fabrication studios. Both makers and observers are immersed in the primeval connections elicited through the action of making. Hot glass studios are especially conducive scenarios where forces such as heat, gravity, and timing are strategic elements in an overall plot. Performative and photogenic, molten glass has infinite variation and the hand/body that forms it has unmistakable humanistic vigor. In the Live Event series hot glass shops are re-contextualized. They become theatrical spaces. The series brings to the forefront the act of making and activates the glass itself as living performer.
SCULPTURE WORKS
GLASS: A ZERO LEVEL OF MATTER
Transparent matter is tricky. Visually we distinguish air from water, water from ice, ice from glass, through perceived shifts in density. Glass is difficult to see; it is a transparent barrier that engages a complex system of looking.
On one level we choose to not to see the material – we look through it and consume the visual access through the glass, we ignore the window, aquarium, jar or building that is in front of us. On another level we focus on the glass itself and are flooded by the extraordinary shifts in density and surface that challenges our understanding of the air and space that surrounds us, we see reflections, smudges, dust, greenish tint, bubbles, warbles…
Transparent matter creates an involved relationship between viewer and material. Glass is a ubiquitous substance that exists on a zero level of matter; a nothingness, which can be both present and absent.
