hot shop, solid worker, projector, reproduction of altar frame
1 hour
This work embraces Ghent’s identity and its’ relationship to the Ghent Altarpiece. The altarpiece created by the Van Eycks has undergone epic 21st century processes of restoration and digitization. The performance engages hands-on processes and digital re-compositions of those processes to embody the less knowable aspects of the painting like its’ “glow” and the sense of awe it inspires. One of the main elements of this performance is the construction of a lamb, a central feature of the Ghent Altar Piece, in hot glass. The heat of the glass is used to create a fountain of spewing red wine fire as well as more abstract interpretations of glowing transmutation.
