Burn Out

Burn Out

2003-2004

Sheet glass, soot, light

42 x 42 x 10 inches (each light box 14 x 14 x 10 inches)

Photography is often used to record a level of objectivity, accuracy, and likeness. These lightboxes display photo-like images of washcloths.  The original washcloths (used by the artist’s family for over a decade) were incinerated on glass; the process of their demise has left a precise but ghostly image composed of soot. Through their residue, these washcloths create an indexical portrait of an aging/disappearing family.
