Sound Wave

Sound Wave

2008

Video, glass, wood

5’ x 5’ x 2’

Molten glass is subjected to the vibrations of live sound (musicians were invited to the glass shop to play a four-minute piece of music, they were free to interpret or play whatever sound/song they felt was most appropriate).  As the glass begins to cool, the sound waves become permanent optic striations in the cast glass.  The resulting glass forms are artifacts of the live sound performance. Each piece has a different optic striation given its particular sound exposure – they are a visual manifestation of process and outcome, suggesting a sense of the sublime derived from the ordinary.

The glass forms and accompanying video are exhibited together.
